Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND)

As of September 1st 2014 the Government has launched a new Code of Practice (CoP) for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) which aims to reform and improve current practices and provision within educational settings for young people. In order to adhere to the new Code of Practice we are currently reviewing our current SEND Policy, procedures and provision in order to provide the best possible education for all children in our school requiring additional support.

If you would like to know more about the new SEND Code of Practice please follow this link:

Currently children with additional needs are identified in a variety of ways including: Teacher Assessments; standardised tests; progress of child in relation to age expectations; observation within lessons; concerns of Parents or child; and through advice of other professionals (e.g. Educational Psychologist, Occupational Therapist).

If parents and carers have any concerns about their child’s progress they can contact the school office at any time to arrange an appointment to discuss these concerns with the class teacher and/or Miss Graham the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Co-ordinator (SENDCo). Miss Graham will also be available to discuss any issues concerning your child’s progress during Parent’s Evenings.

As SENDCo, Miss Graham has gained relevant qualifications to support her role: The National Award for Co-ordination of Special Educational Needs.  She also regularly attends SEND training to add to her knowledge and experience in all areas of special needs to enable her to manage appropriate provision for those children who need additional support and specific interventions.

Our current SEND Policy and SEN Report may be opened by clicking on the links below.  If you have any queries about the policy or the report, please don’t hesitate in contacting Miss Graham.
